Head Start
Program Overview
As one of the oldest programs offered by the Hinds County Human Resource Agency (HCHRA), Project Head Start has provided quality child development services for preschool children and their families across Hinds County for more than 40 years. Its goal is to equip every child with the academic and social skills needed to enter and master kindergarten, thereby giving children a quality Head Start.
Project Head Start is a comprehensive and holistic child and family development program for families facing economic challenges, catering to children from birth to five years old. This innovative program is dedicated to nurturing every facet of a child’s growth—physical, educational, social, and emotional. Recognizing parents’ vital role in their child’s formative years, Head Start actively engages families in a collaborative process to assess and address their immediate concerns and long-term aspirations.
We are proud to operate 13 Head Start Centers, 5 Satellite Classrooms, and 4 Early Head Start programs, all meticulously designed to provide nurturing care and education to young children. Our Head Start Centers are fully equipped facilities that accommodate larger groups of children, fostering a dynamic environment conducive to learning and development.
